An Inspiring Story of Raksha Bandhan: The Bond Beyond Blood
One of the most inspiring tales associated with Raksha Bandhan is the historical story of Rani Karnavati of Mewar and Mughal Emperor Humayun.
During the 16th century, Rani Karnavati, the widow of Maharana Sangram Singh, ruled Mewar as a regent for her young son. When the Sultan of Gujarat, Bahadur Shah, attacked her kingdom, she knew that Mewar’s forces were not strong enough to resist the invasion.
In her desperation, she sent a Rakhi to Emperor Humayun, pleading for his help and protection as a brother.
Despite being a Mughal emperor and belonging to a different faith, Humayun was deeply moved by this gesture. He immediately abandoned his military campaign in Bengal and marched towards Mewar to protect his “sister.”
Unfortunately, by the time he arrived, Chittorgarh Fort had already fallen, and Rani Karnavati chose to perform Jauhar (self-immolation) to protect her honor. However, Humayun later avenged her death by defeating Bahadur Shah and restoring Mewar to her son.
