SSB Training Day 3 – Progressive Group Task (PGT)

The Progressive Group Task (PGT) is a crucial part of SSB (Services Selection Board) testing, conducted on the third day. It is designed to test candidates’ teamwork, leadership, problem-solving skills, and physical endurance.

What is Progressive Group Task (PGT)?

  • A group obstacle-based task where candidates work together to cross obstacles using given helping materials.
  • The task progresses in difficulty level as you move from one obstacle to the next.
  • The focus is on group coordination, leadership qualities, and logical thinking.
  • It usually lasts for 40-50 minutes.

 Rules of PGT (Very Important)

Color Rule

  • White Markings → Both candidates and helping materials can touch.
  • Blue/Black Markings → Only candidates can touch, not the materials.
  • Red Markings → Neither candidates nor helping materials can touch.

Group Rule

  • No candidate should move forward alone; the team must work together.

Load Rule

  • Any weight or load given by the GTO must be carried forward properly.

Helping Material Rule

  • The materials provided (plank, rope, bamboo, etc.) should be used logically and effectively.

 Structure of PGT

Level 1Easiest obstacle, simple path to cross.
Level 2 → Slightly more difficult, requiring better coordination.
Level 3 → Challenging obstacles, requiring creativity.
Level 4Most difficult, testing patience and teamwork under pressure.

How to Perform Well in PGT?

Be an Active Participant – Give ideas and execute them.
Show Leadership – Take initiative but also listen to others.
Follow the Rules Strictly – Avoid mistakes like touching red areas.
Communicate Clearly – Discuss strategies with teammates.
Be Physically & Mentally Fit – PGT requires both strength and intelligence.

 Common Mistakes to Avoid

Not following the rules of markings (Red areas = No touch).
Remaining silent and not contributing ideas.
 Wasting time in unnecessary arguments.

 Conclusion:
PGT is a test of your teamwork, intelligence, and leadership. Perform with confidence, be cooperative, and think logically to successfully complete the tasks.
