Distributive Pronouns (Part-10)

What are Distributive Pronouns?

Distributive pronouns refer to persons or things one at a time rather than collectively. They are used to indicate individuals separately in a group.

Common Distributive Pronouns:

Each – Refers to every individual in a group separately.
Either – Refers to one of the two options.
Neither – Denotes none of the two options.

Usage and Examples

Each (हर एक)

  • Each of the students received a certificate.
    (हर छात्र को प्रमाणपत्र मिला।)
  • Each of them has a different opinion.
    (उनमें से हर एक की अलग राय है।)

Either (कोई एक)

  • You can take either of the two books.
    (तुम दो में से कोई एक किताब ले सकते हो।)
  • Either road leads to the station.
    (दोनों सड़कों में से कोई भी स्टेशन तक जाती है।)

Neither (कोई भी नहीं)

  • Neither of the answers is correct.
    (दोनों में से कोई भी उत्तर सही नहीं है।)
  • Neither of the players performed well.
    (दोनों खिलाड़ियों ने अच्छा प्रदर्शन नहीं किया।)

Key Rules for Using Distributive Pronouns

Always Singular: Distributive pronouns are always used with a singular verb.
Used for Small Groups: Generally used when referring to a limited number of people or objects.
Followed by ‘of’: “Each of,” “Either of,” and “Neither of” are commonly used structures.

Common Mistakes

ncorrect: Each of the students were present.
Correct: Each of the students was present.

Incorrect: Either of the two players are good.
Correct: Either of the two players is good.
