What are Numerals? (संख्याएँ क्या होती हैं?)

Definition:
Numerals are words or symbols used to represent numbers.
(संख्याएँ वे शब्द या चिन्ह होते हैं जो संख्याओं को दर्शाते हैं।)

Types of Numerals (संख्याओं के प्रकार)

1. Cardinal Numbers (गणनात्मक संख्याएँ)

These show how many.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 100…

Examples:

• I have two books.
  (मेरे पास दो किताबें हैं।)

• She bought five apples.
  (उसने पाँच सेब खरीदे।)

2. Ordinal Numbers (क्रमवाचक संख्याएँ)

These show position or order.

First, Second, Third, Tenth, Hundredth…

Examples:

• He stood first in class.
  (वह कक्षा में पहला आया।)

• My office is on the fifth floor.
  (मेरा ऑफिस पाँचवीं मंज़िल पर है।)

3. Multiplicative Numbers (गुणवाचक संख्याएँ)

These show multiples or repetition.

Once, Twice, Thrice, Four times…

Examples:

• I called you twice.
  (मैंने तुम्हें दो बार फोन किया।)

• He failed once but tried again.
  (वह एक बार फेल हुआ लेकिन फिर कोशिश की।)

4. Fractional Numbers (भिन्न संख्याएँ)

These represent part of a whole.

Half, One-third, Three-quarters…

Examples:

• Give me half of the cake.
  (मुझे केक का आधा हिस्सा दो।)

• He drank one-fourth of the bottle.
  (उसने बोतल का चौथाई हिस्सा पिया।)
