Rules of Article – A & An
A/An का प्रयोग Singular Countable Noun के पहले होता है ।। Plural Nouns / Uncountable Nouns / Proper Nouns के पहले A/An का प्रयोग नहीं होता है । A का प्रयोग उस शब्दो के पहले होता है , जिसका उच्चारण व्यंजन-ध्वनि ( Consonant sound ) से शुरू होता है, और An का प्रयोग उस शब्द के पहले होता है जिसका उच्चारण स्वर-ध्वनि ( vowel sound ) से शुरू होता है ।

इन वाक्यो मे A/An के प्रयोग पर ध्यान दें ।
- यह तेल है । This is oil.
2. यह पानी है । This is water.
3. वह चोर है । He is a thief.
4. वह मोहन है । That is mohan.

6. वह एक बैल है । That is an ox.
7. वे एक हाकिम हैं । He is an officer.
8. मै एक शिक्षक हूँँ । i am a teacher.
9. मै एक कलाकार हूँँ । i am an artist.
Note : यह छाता है । और यह एक छाता है । इन दोनो ही वाक्यो की अंग्रेजी This is an umbrella होगी, यहाँ आप यह जान ले कि हिन्दी के ऐसे वाक्यो मे ‘एक‘ का प्रयोग Singular Countabe noun के साथ हो या न हो, अंग्रेजी के वाक्यो मे a/an का प्रयोग होगा । इसी प्रकार ” मै लड़का हूँँ ” का अंग्रेजी अनुवाद ” i am boy ” नही होगा, बल्कि ” i am a boy. होगा, i am boy गलत वाक्य है ।

यदि Noun के पहले Adjective हो । तो a/an का प्रयोग Adjective के पहले होगा । और यदि Noun के पहले Adverb + Adjective हो, तो a/an का प्रयोग Adverb के पहले होगा । साथ ही साथ यह ध्यान रखना है कि a/an का प्रयोग अपने से सबसे नजदीक आनेवाले शब्द के उच्चारण के अनुसार होगा । जैसे —

Important Rules of Article A & An
आप जानते हैं कि ( a, e, i, o, u ) को vowels कहा जाता है । परंतु ऐसे अनेक शब्द होते हैं जो vowel letter से प्रारंभ होते हैं किन्तु उनका उच्चारण Consonant की तरह होता है । अतः उनके पहले a का ही प्रयोग होगा, an का नही । अर्थात vowel letter और vowel sound मे अंतर है । आपको vowel sound के पहले an लगाना है ।
शब्द a, e, i, o, या u से शुरू हो सकते हैं, परंतु यह आवश्यक नही है कि उनके उच्चारण स्वर ध्वनि से शुरू हो । अतः आप याद रखे कि a/an के प्रयोग के लिए शब्द के spelling पर ध्यान नही देकर, उसके उच्चारण पर ध्यान देना होता है ।
आवश्यक नोट — कोई शब्द vowel sound से शुरू हो रहा है या consonant sound से, इसे निश्चित रूप से जानने के लिए बहुत ही सरल नियम है । जिस शब्द के पहले a / an का प्रयोग करना हो, उसे हिन्दी मे लिखें । यदि उसका पहला अक्षर ( letter ) हिंदी मे व्यंजन हो, तो उसके पहले a का प्रयोग करें । यदि उसका पहला अक्षर ( letter ) हिंदी मे स्वर हो, तो an का प्रयोग करें –
हिंदी मे स्वर – अ आ इ ई ……
हिंदी मे व्यंजन – क ख ग घ …..
कुछ शब्द लें –
Egg ( एग ) – इसका पहला अक्षर ‘ ए ‘ हिंदी मे स्वर है, अतः इसके पहले an का प्रयोग होगा ।
Table ( टेबल ) यहाँ पहला अक्षर ‘ट’ व्यंजन है । अतः a का प्रयोग होगा ।
European : यहाँ ‘ e ‘ को देखकर आप ‘ an ‘ लगा देंगे, जो गलत होगा, कैसे होगा ये आप खुद ही इसे हिंदी मे लिखकर देंखें – ” यूरोपीयन ” यहाँ ‘ य ‘ हिंदी का व्यंजन है, अतः ” a European ” होगा ।
निम्नलिखित शब्दो के साथ a/an के प्रयोग को ध्यान से देखकर समझे –
an hour : ( आवर ) : स्वर ध्वनि ( आ )
an M.A : ( एमo एo ) : स्वर ध्वनि ( ए )
a young man : ( यंग ) : व्यंजन ध्वनि ( य )
a university : ( यूनिवर्सिटी ) : व्यंजन ध्वनि ( य )
an honest man : ( आॅनिसट ) : स्वर ध्वनि ( आॅ )

Rules of Article The
The का प्रयोग Singular Common Noun के पहले पूरी जाति का बोध कराने के लिए होता है । जैसे –
- गाय दूध देती है । The cow gives milk.
2. बिल्ली मांस खाती है । The cat eats meat.
3. गाय एक जानवर है । The cow is an animal.
4. घोड़ा उपयोगी होता है । The horse is useful.
5. सिंह बहादुर होता है । The lion is brave.
पूरी जाति का बोध कराने के लिए Plural Common Noun के साथ the का प्रयोग नही होता है जैसे –
- गायें दूध देती हैंं । Cows give milk.
2. घोड़े उपयोगी होते हैं । Horses are useful.
3. लड़के नटखट होते हैं । Boys are naughty.
The का प्रयोग सामान्य अर्थ मे Proper Noun तथा Uncountable Noun के साथ नही होता है । जैसे –
- राम एक लड़का है । Ram is a boy.
2. सोना पीला होता है । Gold is yellow.
3. शहद मीठा होता है । Honey is sweet.
4. दूध लाभदायक होता है । Milk is useful.
5. शराब हानिकारक होता है । Wine is harmful.
The का प्रयोग उस Noun के पहले होगा जो खास /निश्चित / पूर्वपरिचित हो और जिसे वक्ता और श्रोता पहले से जानते हो । इस स्थिति मे Noun Singular हो या Plural. Countabe हो या Uncountable ” the ” का प्रयोग होगा । जैसे –
- बच्चे नटखट हैं । The children are naughty.
( यहाँ children से पूरी जाति का बोध नही हो रहा है, हमारा तात्पर्य कुछ निश्चित बच्चो से है । अतः the का प्रयोग आवश्यक है
- बच्चे नटखट होते हैं । Children are naughty.
( यहाँ the children नही होगा, क्योंकि पूरी जाति का बोध कराना है । )
- कुर्सी टूटी है । the chair is bron.
( कोई निश्चित कुर्सी : अतः The का प्रयोग हुआ है । )
- कुर्सीयां उपयोगी होती है । Chairs are useful.
( निश्चित कुर्सियाँँ : अतः The का प्रयोग हुआ है । )
( यहाँ chairs से पूरी जाति का बोध हो रहा है, चूँकि यह Plural Number मे है इसलिए इसके पहले the का प्रयोग नही होगा )
- गायें बीमार हैं । The caw are ill.
( खास/निश्चित गायें : अतः The का प्रयोग हुआ है । )
- गायें सीधी होती है । Cows are gentle.
( पूरी जाति का बोध कराने के लिए Plural Noun के साथ the का प्रयोग नही होता है । )
- पानी गंदा है । The water is dirty.
( खास/निश्चित पानी : अतः The का प्रयोग हुआ है । )
- पानी उपयोगी होता है । Water is useful.
( सामान्य अर्थ मे The का प्रयोग नहीं होगा । )
- आदमी मरणशील होता है । Man is mortal.
( सामान्य अर्थ मे The का प्रयोग नहीं होगा । )
- आदमी पागल है । The man is mad.
( खास/निश्चित व्यक्ति की चर्चा है । )
- घोड़े अच्छे नहीं थे । The horses were not good.
( खास/निश्चित/पूर्वपरिचित घोड़े )
- घोड़ा मजबूत था । The horse was strong.
- चावल अच्छा नहीं है । The rice is not good.
- दूध मीठा है । The milk is sweet.
