Direct to Indirect Speech Changing Special Rules – 1, How to Change Interrogative Sentences into Indirect Speech.

Note : General Rules जहाँ सभी प्रकार के वाक्यों के साथ लागू होते हैं । वहीं Special Rules विभिन्न प्रकार के वाक्यों के लिए भिन्न भिन्न होते हैं ।

Special Rules : Assertive Sentences / Statements

Inverted Comma के अंदर प्रयुक्त Assertive Sentence को Indirect Speech मे परिवर्तित करने के लिए जो भी नियम हैं ।  उनसे आप पिछले पोस्ट मे परिचित हो चुके हैं । क्योंकि अभी तक आपने जिन वाक्यों को Indirect Speech मे परिवर्तित किये हैं वे सभी Assertive Sentence हैं ।

आपने देखा है। कि Inverted Commas को that मे बदल दिया जाता है । जब Say के बाद to + Object रहता है । और Reporting Verb Say को  tell + Object  मे बदल दिया जाता है । और

जब to + Object नहीं रहता है, तब Say को ज्यो का त्यो छोड़ दिया जाता है ।। आप चाहे तो say + to + object को tell + object मे नहीं भी बदल सकते हो, परंतु बदल देना ज्यादा अच्छा होगा ।

Interrogative Sentences ke Special Rules & Examples

यदि Inverted Commas के भीतर Interrogative Sentence रहे तो निम्नलिखित प्रकार से Direct Speech को Indirect Speech मे बदलते हैं ।

1. Reporting Verb ( say, said ) को ( ask, asked ) मे बदल देते हैं ।

2. Inverted Comma के स्थान पर if का प्रयोग करते हैं

3. Inverted Comma के अंदर प्रयुक्त Interrogative Sentence  को  Assertive Sentence मे बदल देते हैं और Indirect Speech मे  Change  करने के जो सामान्य नियम (General Rules) हैं उन्हें Apply कर पूरे वाक्य को Indirect Speech मे बदल देते हैं ।

Note : Interrogative Sentences को Assertive Sentence मे इस प्रकार बदला जाता है ।

Interrogative                           Assertive

Are you poor ?                                 You are poor.
Are you ill ?                                          You are ill.
Am i not rich ?                                 i am not rich.
Was he absent ?                           He was absent.
Was she dancing ?                   She was dancing.
Has he a cow ?                                He has a cow.
Have they gone ?                       They have gone.
Have you no time ?                 You have no time.
Had you a book ?                        You had a book.

Can she do ?                                        She can do.
Can you do this ?                        You can do this.
Will he go ?                                           He will go.
Will you do ?                                       You will do.
Shall i do this ?                               i shall do this.
Could he go ?                                     He could go.
Should you run ?                        You should run.
Should you go there ?       You should go there.

Do you eat ?                                               You eat.
Do you not play ?                          You don’t play.
Does he go ?                                              He goes.
Does he read ?                                        He reads.
Doesn’t she help you ?     She doesn’t help you.
Did he go ?                                                He went.
Did he not go ?                                  He didn’t go.
Did you know ?                                     You knew.
Did they not come ?                They didn’t come.
Had he gone ?                                   He had gone.

Note : Inverted Comma के अंदर Interrogative Sentence जिस Tense मे होता है, उसे उसी Tense के Assertive Sentence मे बदला जाता है ।

इसे एक Examples से समझे ।1. He said to me,”Are you ill ?”

यहाँ इस वाक्य में सबसे पहले inverted commas के अंदर जो interrogative sentence हैं । उसे Assertive sentence में बदल देंगें ।

1. He said to me,”you are ill.”

अब यह Assertive form मे है, और अब इसे Indirect Speech मे Change करेंगे ।

1. He asked me if i was ill.

उसने मुझसे कहा कि क्या तुम तैयार हो ।
Direct : He said to me,” Are you ready ?”
Assertive : He said to me,” You are ready.”
Indirect : He asked me if I was ready.
राधेश्याम ने मुझसे पूछा कि क्या आप गरीब हैं ।
Radheshyam asked me,” Are you poor ?”
Radheshyam asked me,” You are poor.
Radheshyam asked me if I was poor.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि क्या तुम पढ रहे हो ।
He said to me,” Are you studying ?”
He said to me,” You are studying.
He asked me if I was studying.
उसने राधा से पूछा कि क्या तुम अंग्रेजी जानती हो ।
Direct : He asked Radha,” Do you know english.
Indirect : He asked Radha she knew english.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि क्या तुम दौड़ सकते हो ।
He said to me,” Can you run ?”
He asked me if I could run.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि क्या आप राम को नहीं जानते ।
He said to me,” Don’t you know Ram ?”
He asked me if I didn’t know Ram.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि क्या तुम पढोगे ।
He said to me,” Will you study ?”
He asked me if I should study.
उसने राधा से कहा कि क्या आपने यह किया है ।
He said to Radha,” have you done this ?”
He asked Radha if she had done that.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि क्या आप नहीं पढ रहे हैं ।
He said to me,” Are you not studying/reading ?”
He asked me if I was not studying/reading.
राम ने मुझसे कहा कि क्या आपके पास कलम है ।
Ram said to me,” have you a pen ?”
Ram asked me if I had a pen.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि क्या तुमने काम किया ।
He said to me,” did you work ?”
He asked me if I had worked.
उनलोगों ने मुझसे कहा कि क्या आप नहीं रो रहे थे ।
They said to me,” Were you not weeping ?”
They asked me if I had not been weeping.

राम ने सीता से कहा कि तुम क्या चाहती हो ।
Ram said to Sita,” What do you want ?”
Ram asked Sita what she wanted.
उसने मुझसे पूछा कि तुम कहाँ रहते हो ।
He asked me,” Where do you live ?”
He asked me where I lived.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि तुम क्यों रो रहे हो ।
He said to me,” Why are you weeping ?”
He asked me why I was weeping.
रामू ने मुझसे कहा कि तुम क्या कर सकते हो ।
Ramu said to me,” What can you do ?”
Ramu asked me what I could do.
मैनें उससे कहा कि तुमने उसे क्यों पीटा है ।
I said to him,” Why have you beaten him ?”
I asked him Why he had beaten him.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि तुम कौन हो ।
He said to me,” Who are you ?”
He asked me who I was.
सीता ने मुझसे कहा कि तुम्हारा क्या नाम है ।
Sita said to me,” What is your name ?”
Sita asked me what my name was.
उसने मुझसे कहा कि यह क्या है ।
He said to me,” What is this ?”
He asked me what that was.
उसने रीता से पूछा कि तुम तैयार क्यों हो ।
He asked Reeta,” Why are you ready ?”
He asked Reeta why she was ready.
रीता ने मुझसे पूछा कि आप कहाँ जा रहे हैं ।
Reeta asked me,” Where are you going ?”
Reeta asked me where I was going.
मैनें अपने दोस्त से कहा कि मुझे क्या करना चाहिए ।
I said to my friend,” What should I do ?”
I asked my friend what I should do.
उसने मुझसे पूछा कि तुम क्या करोगे ।
He asked me,” What will you do ?”
He asked me what I should do.
मैनें राम से कहा कि तुम क्यों नहीं पढते रहे थे ।
I said to Ram,” Why had you not been studying ?”
I asked Ram why he had not been studying.
