Overview & Introduction: 5-Day SSB Interview Process
The Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview is a rigorous selection process for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Armed Forces as officers. It is a 5-day evaluation process that assesses candidates on intelligence, personality, leadership qualities, and psychological strength.
5-Day SSB Process Breakdown
Day 1: Screening Test
The first day is all about filtering candidates through two tests:
Officers Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test

Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning (50-60 questions)

Time: 30 minutes per test
Picture Perception & Description Test (PPDT)

A blurred image is shown for 30 seconds

Candidates must write a story in 4 minutes

Group Discussion (GD) follows to analyze leadership & communication skills
Candidates who fail are sent back (Screened Out). The selected ones move to Day 2.
Day 2: Psychological Tests
This stage evaluates your subconscious mind through 4 tests:
Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) – 12 pictures are shown; candidates must create stories based on them
Word Association Test (WAT) – 60 words shown, candidates must form meaningful sentences
Situation Reaction Test (SRT) – 60 real-life situations, candidates must respond quickly
Self-Description Test (SDT) – Write about yourself from different perspectives (parents, teachers, friends)
Tip: Be natural, positive, and realistic while responding.
Day 3 & 4: Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks
The GTO tasks assess your teamwork, leadership, decision-making, and physical fitness.
Group Tasks include:
Group Discussion (GD) – Discussion on current affairs/social issues
Group Planning Exercise (GPE) – Problem-solving in a military scenario
Progressive Group Task (PGT) – Cross obstacles with teamwork
Half Group Task (HGT) – A smaller version of PGT
Lecturette – A 3-minute speech on a random topic
Command Task – Lead a team across an obstacle
Final Group Task (FGT) – Last teamwork-based task
Tip: Show leadership, confidence, and quick decision-making.
Day 5: Personal Interview & Conference
Personal Interview (PI)
