Indian Constitution
The preamble of the constitution of any country is a brief introductory statement that explains the guiding principles of the document. It’s like an introduction to some kind of book. The Preamble of the Indian Constitution is a symbol of our fundamental values and identity on which the Constitution is based. It also acts as a guide for the coming generation. It also symbolizes the ideals and aspirations of the people of India. The provisions in the Preamble show the general objectives of the Constitution.
According to DD Basu, each constitution has its own philosophy. There is also a philosophy in our constitution which is found in the preamble of the constitution. The philosophy of the Constitution is at odds with the ideals and aspirations of India’s freedom struggle, which are faithfully reflected in the Preamble. This historic “objective resolution” was introduced by Pandit Nehru and passed by the Constituent Assembly on 22 January 1947, which formed the basis of the philosophy of the constitution, and with little verbal amendment, the objective motion eventually became the preamble of the constitution. also led to the shaping of the constitution through all subsequent stages.
Fundamental Duties
Fundamental Duties were added to the Constitution by Constitution 42ND Amendment on the recommendation of Sardar Swaran Singh Committee.
This brought the Constitution of India in line with Article 29(1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
Accordingly, Part IV-A was added to the Constitution which inserted Article 51A. Initially, Article 51A provided for 10 fundamental duties of every citizen of India from Article 51A (a) to (j).
