टॉपिक: Subset और Proper Subset में अंतर

Subset (उपसमुच्चय) क्या होता है?

अगर कोई Set A, Set B का हिस्सा है (या पूरा का पूरा B से मेल खाता है), तो A को B का Subset कहा जाता है।

Symbol: A ⊆ B

Example:

मान लीजिए B = {1, 2, 3}
तो इसके Subsets होंगे:
{}, {1}, {2}, {3}, {1, 2}, {2, 3}, {1, 3}, {1, 2, 3}

इसमें पूरा सेट भी अपना subset होता है — यानी {1, 2, 3} ⊆ {1, 2, 3}

Proper Subset (सही उपसमुच्चय) क्या होता है?

जब कोई Set A, Set B का हिस्सा तो हो लेकिन A = B ना हो, यानी A छोटा हो — तो A को B का Proper Subset कहते हैं।

Symbol: A ⊂ B

Example:

B = {1, 2, 3}
Proper subsets होंगे:
{}, {1}, {2}, {3}, {1, 2}, {2, 3}, {1, 3}
लेकिन {1, 2, 3} Proper subset नहीं है क्योंकि ये पूरा सेट है।

Main Difference (मुख्य अंतर):

	Subset (⊆)	Proper Subset (⊂)
	A = B हो सकता है	A = B नहीं हो सकता
	Total 2ⁿ subsets	Total 2ⁿ – 1 proper subsets
	{} और पूरा सेट दोनों शामिल होते हैं	{} तो होता है, लेकिन पूरा सेट नहीं

GATE Trick to Remember:

Subset = Equal भी चलेगा
Proper Subset = Equal नहीं चलेगा

Extra Info for GATE MCQ:

If a set has n elements, then:

Total Subsets = 2ⁿ
Total Proper Subsets = 2ⁿ – 1

Example: Set A = {x, y} → n = 2

Subsets: {}, {x}, {y}, {x, y} → 4 subsets
Proper Subsets: {}, {x}, {y} → 3 proper subsets

GATE 2025 के लिए Tip:

Subset और Proper Subset पर अक्सर True/False type questions आते हैं।
Symbol याद रखें: ⊆ और ⊂ में confusion न करें।
