Kolkata-born Satyendranath’s father Surendranath Bose was an officer in Railways. Satyendra was intelligent from the beginning and his goal was always to top the class. In Mathematics, he solved the questions in more than one way and got 100 out of 100 marks. In 1915, he got the first place in the University of Kolkata and in the same year translated Einstein’s original theory of relativity written in German into English. Bose took leave from the position of Reader and went to Paris for some time and worked there under Madame Curie. After working with Currie and Luis the Broglie, he went to Berlin, where Einstein received him with emotion.
